a device for automatic music composition from 1650

Compose new music using the ark (Write your own text)

Input your own text to the Arca and set it in simple style.

You will get better results if you use line breaks to separate phrases or verse lines. Be sure to divide words of multiple syllables with hyphens and mark the accented (or long) syllables with backticks, like this:

O come, all ye `faith-ful,
`joy-ful and tri-`umph-ant

Since the Arca does not (yet) automatically detect the meter of the input text, your text will be set as prose. In the command-line version, you can create input texts of any complexity, in any of Kircher’s poetic meters.
